Racing, riding and adventure by bike

Rainy day trails

So one could be forgiven for thinking i do little else but ride a fat bike once every blue moon. In fairness, I don’t ride bikes anywhere near as often as i used to and my ever increasing BMI can back that up. In truth, I ride fat bikes maybe once every 3rd or 4th ride, but since most of my riding is a pre work blast through Glenrock, i don’t really feel the need to bust out the camera and take the millionth photo of Elvis rock for the morning.

However with the weeks of rain we’ve had, Glenrock is well and truly off limits and the thought of trashing my shiny roadie in the rain doesn’t really feel right.  Instead, i opt for the bike that has been trashed since about the 3rd or 4th ride i took on it……… the fattie.

So el senór B-rad and I did the usual wander around the dunes business. The weather was shite with a howling southerly and heavy rain but it didn’t matter. We rode around in circles exploring the dune system and trying to find rideable climbs. Sometimes it worked, sometimes you were snookered and had to get off and push.

We had some fishing rods along with us with the aim of casually chucking a lure at anything stupid enough to eat it although we abandoned that option when we got near enough to the water to gauge that our little 6 foot telescopic rods weren’t going cast far enough to get out through the raging swell.

Anyway, we noodled back into the howling head wind trying to pick a route that offered the best protection against the wind. We got thoroughly soaked right at the end when we got back to the car but a lazy Sunday afternoon bacon and egg roll and several strong coffees made it all worthwhile when we got home.

While lifting my moonlander into the back of the van, B-rad commented that he should probably fix the crown race while he was changing the bearings in my rear hub. Puzzled i went in for a closer inspection to discover half my crown race was missing. No idea when that happened, probably months ago but nothing on the moonlander really runs smoothly, so i feel i can be forgiven for not noticing.

Anyway, on the shittiest, rainiest day when every other trail was shut down, we got to go for a ride, Nay –  a mini adventure. It was rad. Riding bikes is fun. As endless bike girl would say. Fuck yeah, bikes!
